Concert Band Music
Wanderlust | Grade 2
Randall Standridge Music Publications
Wanderlust was written early in the pandemic when no real-time music making and no traveling were allowed. I had been feeling totally lost and my soul had been restless; those are the two things that make me feel alive. I ended up writing this piece to capture that love for adventure and possibility, and the wistful reflection that comes from time away. The opening is inspired by my 14 year old English Pointer Mix, Tucker. Even though Tuck has hip dysplasia and arthritis in his knee, he gets up every morning and BOUNCES around the house, chortling, with multiple toys in his mouth like this day is just going to be the best. day. EVER. I hope you experience the same amount of joy and adventure as you explore this piece!

Mischief, Magic, Mayhem | Grade 2.5
Murphy Music Press, Inc.
Mischief, Magic, Mayhem is a musical journey through changing meters, articulations, and styles. The spirit of the piece as a whole was inspired by the excitement, energy, and occasional chaos that exists in the band room with young musicians. The first movement specifically is a nod to the iconic “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Paul Dukas. Let the musical mischief begin!

Whimsy and joy abound in this charming work. Inspired by her students, the composer uses ascending lines and playful percussion effects to create a wonderful piece that exudes positivity and imagination. Carefully scored to be accessible to younger players, this work for developing musicians serves as a wonderful introduction to 3/4 and programmatic writing.

Space Races | Grade 3
Murphy Music Press, Inc.
This musical adventure takes us on a journey figuratively and literally through space and time. The opening theme marks the start of the race. The interjecting chromatic measures serve as flying obstacles as you zip through the galaxy until suddenly in measure 38 your ship is struck by a meteor shower, and you plummet down onto an undiscovered planet. This unknown oasis is strange and beautiful. As you explore your surroundings you gather makeshift supplies to get your ship patched up and ready to resume the race! As you make your way back to the course you pull out all your tricks to make up for lost time. At measure 106 the finish line is in sight, pedal to the metal as you blast past the competition and into the winner’s circle.

Brave Beginnings | Grade 0.5 | Flex Band
Murphy Music Press, Inc.
Brave Beginnings is the musical journey that we all experience as brand new musicians. Becoming part of the “Band Family” requires us not only to be brave and try new things individually, but also to be honest and vulnerable as a group. To trust each other to cheer for one another, no matter what. That experience is a magical transformation from a group of people in the same room playing instruments at the same time, to a band. May your beginnings be brave and your chosen family be your band family.
